Hola, Hallo and Hi – this is Rita speaking.
Our wonderful two weeks here in Port Andratx, with my parents are coming to an end. We enjoyed sharing endless hours on our beautiful deck overlooking the blue water, while having breakfast or dinner. We played cards, laughed a lot, discussed big and small matters – we have been a family. Today it’s overcast and rainy, maybe because it’s our last day, that means laundry and packing.
But before I get to that, I would like to take a moment and reflect back on the last two weeks (plus a few more days) in a different light. It’s about Geoff – he has been absolutely amazing. Remember, my parents don’t speak any English and he does not speak any German. He has been so patient during the entire time when my parents and I talked for hours, mostly about “nothing”, sometimes got into heated discussion, again about “nothing” earth shattering but animated and for Geoff looking on, it must have been weird not knowing what’s going on. Geoff has been happy sitting in a corner and reading books – for hours! When it was time for Happy Hour, I just had to say: “Geoff, Happy Hour” and our drinks and snacks were delivered (maybe I should try that at home???). He drove us around, stopped when we asked him to, took pictures of the sights and us, sat in Restaurants trying to follow our conversation (about nothing!) and waited patiently for his turn to ask me a question or to talk to me. With only a few hours to ourselves during our power walks (and who can talk then?) or the occasional walk to watch the sunset, he had nobody to talk to. From the bottom of my heart, “Thank you Geoff”, you have been a wonderful, understanding partner and a very good son-in-law! My parents love you, I love you more!! I am looking forward to the weeks ahead, exploring Germany, Austria and Northern Italy “Geoffey style”, you have earned it!
